Jan King has been a trailblazer from her debut as the lead singer of The Orchids in the 80s, through the 90s as the founder and leader of the all-female rock bands Puss n' Boots and Crying Blue Sky, as well as her solo work in film soundtracks. Her distinctive vocal style and visual lyric and songwriting set her apart from the corporate rockers and hair bands that dominated the Sunset Strip when she lived in Los Angeles. Jan eventually moved to Chicago, where she founded her current band, Medicine Ball, and continues to perform and record her distinctive brand of bluesy textured rock and roll.
Jan's guitar playing has often been compared to Jimi Hendrix and Jeff Beck. She has been an inspiration and mentor to other female musicians who hold their own in a genre where women are still woefully under-represented. Jan's latest solo album, "Dime", produced by Mark Governor, and featuring a stellar group of Los Angeles musicians, tracks the emotional and musical journey of this genre-breaking, barrier busting artist whose songwriting is timeless, and whose talent never ceases to inspire and amaze.
