"Notes from the Edge" is a classical-pop crossover concert of arrangements for string quartet and vocals of songs by such artists as Radiohead, Pink Floyd, David Bowie, Elvis Costello, Joni Mitchell, The Killers, and many more. With stunning arrangements (by renowned film composer Mark Governor and violist Tom Tally,) world-class musicianship, and haunting and sultry vocals by singers from pop and world music, "Notes from the Edge" explores the relationship between pop and serious music performance and emboldens audiences to expand their knowledge of styles of music and ensembles through a captivating and exhilarating concert experience. With soul, style and wit, the concert takes audiences on a journey through the wilds of pop, alternative and new concert music reinterpreting songs in ways unexpected and sublime.

Mark Governor is a renowned film and TV composer and songwriter, with music in 20 feature films and over 150 TV shows, collaborating with artists like Johnny Depp, Iggy Pop, and Ringo Starr. His rock musical “The Scarlet Letter” has had sell-out 8-10 week runs at 250 -500 seat venues in Los Angeles, Boston and Berlin and his Latin-themed “Possession: The Legend of El Rojo” is slated for productions in LA and Europe in 2008. Mark studied with renowned American composer Aaron Copland, and in the classical world, concert versions of his suite “On the Occasion of Falling Rain” have been performed by ensembles in Los Angeles, Salt Lake City, Phoenix and Boston.
Controversial violist Tom Tally has used his classical training to turn the symphonic world on it's head by encouraging string players to embrace rock guitar solos as a normal part of repertoire and classical training and is well known for his string quartet arrangements of Jimi Hendrix, The Doors, Eric Clapton, and the White Stripes in addition to being an in-demand studio musician and orchestral performer. He has produced, composed, and arranged numerous instrumental originals and tributes to his favorite artists ranging from Jimi Hendrix to Panic at the Disco. As a recording artist he performed on countless hit records for Stevie Wonder, Keb 'Mo, Willie Nelson, Kanye West, Counting Crows, Leonard Cohen, Brandy, Michael Jackson, Rosey, Aaron Neville, Roy Orbison, Lionel Richie, Billy Joel, Elton John and many more.
Dhana Taprogge grew up in Europe and has mastered 4 languages along the way (English, German, Spanish & French). Since her arrival in LA she has been fronting Taxi Doll, a Euro-flavored dance pop rock band with an amazing live show, whose song reached #3 on the Billboard Dance Airplay Chart & 1 on Music Week Charts in UK. Dhana has shared the stage with a very diverse range of acts such as Katy Perry, The Prodigy, Shiny Toy Guns, Boomkat, Berlin, & Bitter Sweet as well as headlining shows around the country. Active as a recording artist and session singer, she has had the chance to collaborate with many wonderful artists/producers both here in the US and in Europe, (Linda Perry, Groove Addicts, Musikvergnuegen, Citysound Music, Fox, MTV, Warner Bros etc) as well as being a Universal and EMI published artist. Her songs can be heard in various movies and TV shows such as "Firewall", "The Hills", "90210" and "CSI". Besides her film & TV credits, hit records and being featured on national and international commercials & jingles, Dhana also works as an international singer/songwriter and voice over artist (various languages). Katherine Liner, a gifted singer, songwriter, and arranger, is an artist of uncommon depth and distinction. Her first professional job was singing as a child for several seasons at The Lyric Opera of Chicago-most notably with the great, Placido Domingo. Upon graduation from the Chicago Academy for the Arts, Katherine moved westward to attend The California Institute of the Arts. This move introduced her to the unique LA music scene and is the city she now considers home. Katherine has performed all over the world in various venues from small jazz clubs to 10,000 seat stadiums. Katherine is fortunate to have worked with some of the recording industry’s top writers, producers and labels as a go-to session vocalists, artist and writer. She is currently a new artist signing at the highly respected Primary Wave Music who now represents her vast catalog of electronic/ambient/world/pop/soul/lounge music.
Kelly Becerra was born in Los Angeles and raised on the outskirts of Hollywood. A graduate of the East Los Angeles Music and Art School, Kelly is also a trained and accomplished Hip-Hop, Latin, Salsa, and Tap dancer. She toured for several years with the prestigious "Young Americans" performing group directed by Milton Anderson. Since then, Kelly has entertained audiences professionally, singing and dancing at Universal Studios, Knott's Berry Farm, Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines and in various movies and music videos. A few artists Kelly has worked with include Kelly Rowland, Nick Cannon, Christina Milian, Roberto Enrique, and Jennifer Lopez. Kelly has also worked with Mark Governor in his rock opera “shAme” and as the star of his Latin dance musical “Possession”.
All the members of the quartet have worked with Mark Governor on dozens of film and TV scores.
Citysound also works with community youth and amateur ensembles to develop deeper understanding and enthusiasm for contemporary classical music ensembles. "Notes from the Edge" made its official premiere at the Ford Amphitheatre in Hollywood, CA on June 15, 2008.
